Earth Medicine

As the seed energy of Friday’s Capricorn New Moon embeds itself in the ground of our lives, the cosmos sings a song of the Earth.  Luna herself moved into Aquarius early Saturday.  The Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Pluto, however, all remain in Capricorn for the rest of this week, after which Mercury moves into Aquarius a few days before the Sun.  This is more Earth energy than we’ll see again for over three months.  And it’s the serious, focused, take-charge energy of Capricorn. .

The Aquarius Moon has infused the weekend with an exhilarating breath of fresh air, lightening up the mood.  Today, with Luna Void of Course all day and all night, and Venus challenging Aquarius’ ruler Uranus, we have a cosmic invitation to slow down and relate ourselves to the dynamic transformation of the Earth that’s taking place within us and around us.

The Transforming Earth Within You & Around You

It’s Earth energy that condenses the vibrations of the cosmos into matter–the very same matter that we’ve been taught to think of as the a to z of ”reality.” Matter, in all its innumerable forms, creates the greatest of illusions—that it is permanent and enduring.  Against the evidence of all our senses, we believe in the indestructibility not of the energy that is the Life Force, but of matter.

From the human body to the Earth herself, everything that comes into form appears solid–yet is actually engaged in a ceaseless process of transformation.  As Pluto, the Great Transformer, travels through Capricorn in a close square from 2011 to 2015, this transformation of all the solid forms of our lives is being dramatically intensified. Along with everything else on Earth, we’re now immersed in a once-every-284-years scale of death and rebirth, set in a once-every-26,000 years scale of cosmic transition.

When Pluto entered Capricorn, the cracks in our institutions began to widen. The financial markets crashed and the economy teetered. As Uranus began to approach a square with Pluto, the Arab Spring erupted and the Occupy Movement burst on the scene.

It’s not just the parts of our world ruled by Capricorn–the institutions like the government, the corporations, the universities–where what is outworn and outlived is passing away.  It’s not only the parts of our lives ruled by Capricorn in our birth charts that are dying and being reborn. It’s the Earth herself who’s being transformed. At the core of the earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, heat waves, solar flares, tornadoes, and magnetic polar shifting happening across the globe is . . . Pluto.

Pluto is not the Cosmic Hit Man.  He’s the Cosmic Regenerator. The death and destruction that often comes with him doesn’t come from a desire to bring harm and suffering.  Pluto has one purpose: to remove the blockages to the flow of the Life Force.  Whatever it takes to make more room for Life is what he’ll do.

That’s what he’s doing now, as his energy penetrates the world’s institutions, as well as the structures of our own lives, wherever the energy of Capricorn is found in our birth charts. That’s what he’s doing as his energy penetrates the Earth herself. A square between Pluto and Uranus, exact seven times between 2012 and 2015, brings world-changing fire-power to the global process of transformation that’s underway.

It’s not just the parts of our lives ruled by Capricorn in our birth charts that are dying and being reborn. It’s happening on the Earth around us and on the Earth within us.

The Cosmic Feminine & The Invitation to Renewal

This weekend, the Cosmic Feminine invites us to evolve our relationship with the transforming Earth.  Approaching a conjunction with Pluto and in the midst of an exact square to Uranus,Venus awaken and liberate our love for the Earth—within us and around us.

What does that mean for your weekend?  All the energy concentrated in Capricorn invites us to experience reality through the senses. The awareness this bring us is deep, wordless, and creaturely.  Without abundant sensory contact, all that Earth energy doesn’t have the space it needs.  It becomes heavy, rigid, petty, controlling, and depressed—and so do we.

What the senses bring, of course, is pleasure. Our capacity for sensual pleasure is a key that unlocks the cosmic dimensions of Earth.  Immersed in the profoundly creative wilds of nature—whether in our own bodies or in the larger world—the Earth  Is literally in its element.  With Venus in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries as our guides, our senses are ready and waiting to connect us with the depth of the life force, alive with the future and rapidly evolving within the heart of all we see.
