For those of us in the U.S., the dawn of this day began as the two great lights of our sky began the ancient dance of solar and lunar power we call an eclipse.  The field for this dance is Scorpio — the sign of the Cosmic Transformer and the energy that raises the phoenix from the ashes of your past. Today, our planet receives a deep and potent immersion in the energy that this great  bird — an ancient symbol of Spirit’s regenerative power — needs to rise again.  The Cosmos invites us to become the process of transformation — and in so doing, to change the game.

1.  The Sun comes to the dance charged with a dynamism expressed in multiple bursts of solar energy in recent days.  In fact, many seers and sages among us, including teacher, author, and healer Jim Self, believe that our Star reversed its geomagnetic field in August, following the formation of the Star Tetrahedron or Merkaba at the end of July and with this eclipse, is concluding its “re-booting” period within us and around us.

2. The eclipse is a rare hybrid  — a type that includes less than 5% of all solar eclipses. Over the 21st century, hybrid eclipses will occur only six more times.  As Sol and Luna began their dance, a ring of fire surrounded the Sun. The ring of fire is correlated with a flash of illumination and revelation.

During the period of totality, the dimming of the solar light allowed the potent eclipse energy to seed itself in deepest levels of our consciousness.  Over the next six months, the seed that was planted this morning will unfold.   As the eclipse moved from the eastern coast of the U.S. across the Atlantic and crossed Africa, it became total.

3.  The eclipse is saturated with the world-changing, life-changing energy of the Uranus-Pluto squares that are breaking open the hard, dry ground within us and around us and bringing forth a new era for life on Earth. Two days ago, in the Dark Moon when outworn energies were being dissolved and the seed of the new cycle was beginning to form, Uranus and Pluto made the fourth of their seven world-changing, life-changing squares.

Today’s eclipse also liberates the feminine energy that supports and blesses us as we undergo the powerful transformations of the Underworld.  The goddess asteroid Hekate confronts Uranus from across the sky and challenges Pluto. This tense and dynamic aspect, known as a t-square, releases Hekate’s ancient power form the depths of our consciousness, where she has been long trapped, and propels her to the forefront as an agent of our evolution.

4.  Mercury, the Cosmic Messenger, is on a retrograde vision quest through Scorpio, aligned with the North Node at the time of the eclipse.  The Messenger is opening our consciousness to the deep, hidden realms where transformation and change are seeded and helping us claim the transformative power within us that these times of accelerated evolution require.

5.  Venus, who carries the Cosmic Feminine with Luna among the planets who form the  structure of our consciousness, is at a turning point in her eight-year cycle.  Aligned with the great and mysterious vortex of creation and destruction at the center of our Milky Way Galaxy, she has just reached her maximum elongation with the Sun.  At the moment of the eclipse, Venus trines the asteroid Pallas Athene, who carries the energy of the ancient wisdom goddess.

Eclipses are flavored by the closest contacts between the planets in the sky.  Three aspects speak most powerfully of the energetic purposes of this eclipse.  Together they provide us with our instructions from the Cosmos:  Act in service of the regeneration of Life.  Understand the evolutionary nature of the deep changes at work within you and around you.  Follow your heart.

Here is how this message is written in the sky:

1.  A creative, collaborative sextile between Mars, the Cosmic Warrior, and the Sun and Moon — the closest aspect in the eclipse field — shows us the kind of action we need to take.  Traveling through Virgo, the ancient sign of Isis and Persephone, the Warrior’s sextile to the two great lights of our consciousness is only 3 minutes — a 20th of a degree — from being perfect.

The aspect associated with Venus,  the sextile creates new opportunity — in this case, to take action that serves the transformative purposes of the Cosmos:  Burn all that  has outlived its purpose in your life, the Warrior now urges.  Make room for the phoenix within you to rise. Show the Universe that you too are ready to spread your wings and fly.

2.  Vision questing Mercury shows us where to focus our perception, with his almost perfect conjunction with the Moon’s North Node, carrier of the evolutionary direction.  As the new seed is planted, the Messenger searches far beneath the surface of our awareness, looking for the insight and experience we need to remember in order to align ourselves with the great shifts occurring all around us and deep within us.

As Luna moved across the face of the Sun this morning, she dimmed the solar light and created a moment of maximum potency for the lunar awareness. There, beneath the threshold of consciousness, is the dwelling place of nearly everything that we know — the wisdom that is held in our emotions, our dreaming mind, and the cells of our bodies. This lunar awareness nurtures and shapes our perception of reality, our conscious beliefs, and the actions that we take.

Today’s eclipse gives us deep, transformative access to this potent and creative realm of Being, within us and around us.  Releasing what no longer serves us, we align ourselves with the creative energy of the Cosmos within us.
